Medispec introduces the CardiospecTM — therapeutic system using Extracorporeal Shock Wave Myocardial Revascularization (ESMR) therapy to non-invasively provide improvement in the areas of the heart no longer receiving adequate blood supply. Despite existing surgical and interventional options to improve blood flow, these methods may only result in partial revascularization. ESMRTM offers new hope for these patients.

What to Expect

ESMR treatments are performed in outpatient centers using a shock wave generator designed to address pre-selected locations in the heart. A cardiac ultrasound imaging system (echocardiography) is used to locate and map the exact position of the treatment area. This treatment does not require any form of anesthesia and each procedure is quick and painless. Several treatment sessions over a 9 week period are required to obtain optimal results. Once you have completed your ESMR treatment, you should be able to return to normal daily activity. Always follow the instructions of your doctor before going in for treatment and once the treatments are completed.

Is ESMR for me?

Patients with the following conditions should NOT consider ESMR as a treatment option:

  • unstable angina
  • acute myocardial infraction
  • chronic lung disease
  • intra-ventricular thrombus
  • active endocarditis
  • myocarditis
  • pericarditis
  • who are pregnant
